List of works by Johann Sebastian Bach

[edit]

Hey, I was doing massive edits to the article today and have been planning to do more edits in the coming hours. I noticed you added some things that conflict with what I did (we were both editing at the same time), could we maybe work this out somehow? I could stop editing and let you do the things you want or you could stop editing and let me finish what I began. Jashiin 19:48, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. I thought it was weird there was no section for 'late contrapunctal works' and just started editing. If I had checked, I would have seen that you were in the middle of something. Keep going! --Leo44 (talk) 19:57, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Its allright, these things can happen to anyone. Its not like people should check article history before making even the smallest edit. The article did lack a section for late contrapunctal works, in fact, The Art of Fugue and The Musical Offering were part of "Canons"! :) I moved them to a separate section and was thinking about giving both the canons and those two works a separate heading but you beat me to it by like, a couple of minutes :) Jashiin 20:12, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tweaked the structure a little, does this look better? Why I keep "The Art of Fugue" and "The Musical Offering" in the heading is because I want a casual reader who heard about these works to be able to find them quickly in the contents tab. As for sources, well, I'm using Dave's page (which sadly has some mistakes) and [1] (in French, I can understand some things, but not everything). I compare the two and use my Bach audio collection to filter out random mistakes. Thanks for the encouragement :) Jashiin 10:44, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can't remember exactly what mistakes were there, I believe they were mostly minor details like a wrong number for Vivaldi's original composition or a wrong movement number in some description. So don't be worried too much, its still a very comprehensive page :) Jashiin 11:03, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Translation request

[edit]

Hi. I wrote the article Regent Parrot mostly by translating the Dutch article at nl:Bergparkiet. There were some words etc. where my Dutch let me down, and those remain commented out. I'd appreciate it if you could edit the article and finish the translation. Thanks for your time and attention. Cheers, Tomertalk 09:58, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you looked in on the article, thanks for your time...my questions have been answered. :-) Tomertalk 20:53, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VWN en WCN

[edit]

Jandek album covers

[edit]

First thing, it's now easy to undelete deleted images. I haven't done any mass deletions before we got this feature. So if any image is actually contributing significantly to the articles, it can be undeleted by any admin in just a few clicks.

Second, Wikipedia fair use policy which has been a compromise between pro-fair-use and everything-has-to-be-free factions puts very high standards of when fair use images are appropriate:

The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose.

Because in the past fair use CD/DVD covers have been uploaded just for decoration, in spite of Wikipedia policies, I'm all for deleting all of them en masse right now, and selectively undeleting only those that actually significantly contribute to articles. One cover actually contains a photo of Jandek (as used in article Jandek), and I have nothing against using that one. But most of them seem to be simply a decoration

Now I find your claim that Jandek's album covers are somehow significant rather dubious, as there isn't a single word about significance of the covers in Jandek article. If the covers are actually significant, something would be written about that in the article.

Enjoy :-) Taw 13:56, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jandek

[edit]

Thanks so much for the comments! I don't think it will be too hard to edit these pages to these specs. I already did "Ready for the House" if you want to check it. For everything I learn, I learn something new. My goal (as you've guessed) is to post comments on every Jandek album to date, and then to keep that going.

I'll make a small change to Down in a Mirror. I've never QUITE been able to figure that "tick" out. You hear his shoes tap on many songs but that song (and one on the following album) sounds like something more "timed" - but as I can't tell quite what it is, I'll edit slightly.

And thanks for reminding me about The Rocks Crumble! I've certainly heard the Trubee interview but had forgotten that anecdote. Will get that fixed right away.

Thanks for the comments and for helping me out. My goal is for these to look professional and help anyone trying to sort through this increasingly massive catalog. And there's more coming - I'm going to both upcoming shows so we'll see what lies ahead for Corwood.

Thanks, Disink 15:48, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I think I'm finally getting the hang of "User Talk." I suppose I need to relisten to the whole damn thing again myself. The problem, for me, is the way it's presented on the DVD, where you can't pause it or search it. At least it was split into two parts! And, of course, I appreciate having it at all. Thanks SO much for the info - I'll make the changes right away.

Disink 16:54, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would LOVE this. I'll add that not only would I appreciate it, but you'd be aiding in the novel I'm writing, which is a fictitious biography of Jandek (done with Corwood's assistance and approval). Listening to this interview has proven frustrating more than once, so I am in your debt if you could find it in yourself to do that. Thanks so much!!!

Disink 17:04, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for the YSI. In return, I'll get "The Cell" up - will take me a bit (I only have a 256k connection - doh!) but you'll have it all by day's end.

As for the book, I've got some pretty heavy confidentiality agreements in order to use the Jandek name, lyrics, and cover images BUT I can tell you that there will be cool stuff in the book that will hopefully elucidate this artist more clearly. As to its "factual" or "fictitious" nature I can only say that it is a fictitious biography, and meant to be taken as a work of fiction. For instance, the name "Sterling Smith" appears nowhere in the book.

Though it's not been publically announced yet, I've been booked to do a reading from this book in Chicago at 7PM on the 19'th at Quimby's Books. I'm having some gorgeous chapbooks (with, if all works out, a cover by Corwood) printed for the reading that will be available at no cost. I'm trying to work out a place for Toronto as well. The Quimby's thing will be announced in the next few weeks, but I'm free to discuss it now. more than a little excited about that!

In fact, my work here on the discography helps with the book - I was going back through the catalog one by one anyway and decided to see what was here (I always love alternate hearings), only to discover great looking sites with little info. So I'm trying to fill in the gaps. Thanks again SO MUCH for the mp3 and I'll give you links for the Cell (why oh why couldn't he have just called the album that?) ASAP. You will be AMAZED. Thanks in advance so much. Disink 17:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Genmaicha

[edit]

Hi, you made an edit to the article on genmaicha in December 2005 saying the tea's origin is Japan. I have little to no knowledge of East Asian teas and don't mean to question your knowledge, but was wondering whether the Japanese origin might be nothing but a guess. Unless there is a reputable source that suggests this tea has been made in Japan before it has been made anywhere else (I'm thinking of Korea), it may be better to refrain from including possibly misleading information. The reference currently in the article does not seem to say the tea has been "invented" in Japan. Thanks, Wikipeditor 23:39, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Corwooddiscography.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Corwooddiscography.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 10:03, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Arisetherefore albumcover.gif}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Arisetherefore albumcover.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
