Recall (Software)

[edit]

Recall (getrecall.ai) is a knowledge management software platform designed to help users efficiently consume, organize and retain content. Recall Wiki, Inc., a Delaware corporation focuses on building an automatically generated, self-organizing knowledge graph that connects and surfaces relevant information. Recall is tailored for individuals and businesses seeking to enhance their learning and productivity through summarization, connecting knowledge and reviewing content on a spaced repetition schedule.

Features

[edit]

The Recall knowledge base can be accessed through a browser extension, web app and a mobile app. It's core features include:

  • Summarization: Recall summarizes online content from news articles, PDFs and Googles Docs to over 10 hour long YouTube videos. You can ingest content through several methods, including a browser extension, mobile app, or bulk bookmark import.
  • Categorization: Recall is a self-organizing knowledge base where content is automatically categorized using a tagging system. Tags are assigned based on the topic of the content and dynamically adjusted based on existing tags in your knowledge base.
  • Connections: All data added to Recall is stored in a knowledge graph. This graph is formed by extracting and connecting “key entities”—that is, important keywords automatically pulled from the content. These connections reveal insights and relationships in your knowledge that you might have otherwise missed.
  • Reviews: Most people will likely forget 90% of the content they consume within a week—this is just our natural forgetting curve. The Recall Review was built to offset this forgetting curve through reinforced understanding and retention. It uses two scientifically proven learning techniques—Active Recall and Spaced Repetition—to quiz you on content saved into Recall, resurfacing it on a schedule tailored to your learning curve.

History

[edit]

Recall was conceptualized by Paul Richards in 2022, a cybersecurity professional with extensive experience in knowledge graph technologies. Frustrated by the limitations of existing tools, Richards developed Recall as a side project to address the challenges of organizing and retrieving knowledge from digital content. The software gained attention following a viral post on Hacker News, which led to funding within hours and the transition of Recall into a full-time venture. Recall is headquartered in Amsterdam and has received backing from top Silicon Valley investors.

Use Cases

[edit]

Recall serves a diverse range of users, including:

  • Professionals: For summarizing and organizing technical documents, research papers, and work-related content.
  • Students: Assisting with summarizing academic material and building a personalized knowledge repository.
  • Creative Individuals: Helping chefs, writers, and artists manage their ideas and inspirations.
  • Enterprises: Providing teams with tools to enhance collaboration and shared knowledge.

Reception

[edit]

Recall has been praised for its innovative use of knowledge graphs and summarization capabilities. Early users have highlighted its ability to save time and improve learning by dynamically connecting related information. The platform has been featured in technology publications and received positive reviews for its focus on learning rather than traditional productivity.
